The Talbot football team have qualified for the Dublin Finals in May in Irishtown Stadium after winning the South Dublin Qualifiers in the SDFL Stadium. In total 15 teams took part. We were in a tough 5 team group with Adamstown Educate Together, Divine Mercy Balgaddy, Clonburris and St Louise’s Ballyfermot. The girls started with a close fought 1-0 win with Carla getting the winning goal. Kenzie in goal made a number of important saves and Lily and Kathleen made countless defensive tackles. In the next two group games the girls played brilliantly and won 3-1 and 2-0 with four of our goals coming from our three youngest players – 4th class pupils Ava, Leah and Kate with 2 goals. Carla got another goal in the 3-1 win. After 3 wins from 3, we played Clonburris who also had 3 wins and the victor would qualify for the final. In a very tough game and after some brilliant saves from Kenzie, Carla scored her third goal of the tournament in the last minute to ensure a 1-0 win and a place in the final. In the final we faced Gaelscoil Eiscir Riada of Lucan in a tremendous game of football. Kate scored 2 wonderful goals in a close-fought 2-1 win. Well done to the 7 girls who participated and a big thank you to all 16 girls who trained last week at school.
