We, the students, voted this week! We voted 1, 2, 3 from the 12 candidates standing for election in our area, Dublin Mid-West.

261 of us voted. Everyone in 6th, 5th, 4th, and 3rd. Only 4 people could be elected.

These are the results…

  1. Mark Ward, Sinn Féin (elected on the 1st count with 55 votes, 3 over the quota of 52)
  2. John Curran, Fianna Fáil (elected on the 5th count)
  3. Peter Kavanagh, Green Party (elected on the 6th count)
  4. Francis Timmons, Independent (also elected on the 6th count)

Ten members of the Student Council were heavily involved in organising this. Well done to Isabelle, Grace, Katie, Sean, Callisto, Tori, Taylor, Jamie, Zuzanna, and Martyna, all of whom…

  • wrote the letter to all 12 candidates asking for a reply to the question what have they done for climate change, not what are they going to do
  • read all the 8 replies, and summarised them into 3 bullet points for each person
  • went to all the classes and read out the 3 bullet points
  • and then organised everyone to vote 1, 2, 3
  • and then counted all the votes, using the PR (proportional representation) system to count votes and transfers.

Congratulations to everyone for voting, and taking your vote so seriously. Congratulations to all the candidates for standing for election, and especially to those elected! We hope our families all vote this Saturday. Every vote matters.
