Parents/Guardians of 6th class children being confirmed this year,
Here, per the letter sent home today, are the times each class is being confirmed on Thursday 27th April:
- 11.00 am: Mr Coleman’s class and Ms Treacy’s class
- 1.00 pm: Ms McEvoy’s and Mr Gordon’s class
By having only two classes at a time we can allow each child be supported by up to 6 or 7 others (parents/guardians, sponsor, and perhaps others such as grandparents etc).
Also, many things are happening in advance (including a day-long retreat for the children by the wonderful Net Ministries on Wednesday, 29th March). The following two things concern YOU…

The Ceremony of Light
This is a key part of your child’s preparation.
It’s a lovely experience for you and your child.
A key part of the service is when parents/ guardians hand the lighted Baptismal candle to their child, acknowledging that their child is now ready to become a responsible Christian.
Parents/Guardians light their child’s Baptismal candle from the Paschal candle and hand it to their child. In doing so, parents/guardians promise to help and support their child live out the call of their Confirmation. They are agreeing, together with their child, to keep the light of faith burning in all of their lives.
You would be proud of the way your child is preparing their mind and their heart for receiving the sacrament of Confirmation — the strengthening of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Each student is using a special ‘Grow In Love’ workbook bought by the school in October; it helps them learn more about Jesus and the Holy Spirit, and prompts them towards their Christian mission in life — to love God and take action to love (all) others.
