With exactly a week to go before the adults of Bawnogue vote in a new government, who did the children choose?
First, yesterday, the class got some information on a sheet from me about each party (not biased: direct from the parties’ websites). Then for homework they went home and discussed the election with their families. Today the class shared what they learned/know. Then they had an election, by secret ballot (heads down, hands up). The results:
- Fine Gael: 8 votes
- Labour: 5 votes
- Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin: 3 votes each
- Greens: 1 vote
- Independents: 1 vote
- Choosing not to vote: 1 (“It’s too hard to choose”)
Twenty-two children took part, two children were absent.
Children then had a chance, if they wished, to tell the others who they voted for and give reasons. I’m really proud of them all: most people stood up and spoke really well, giving good clear reasons why to vote for certain parties. The class is full of future local leaders, all doing good for the people of Bawnogue and Ireland.
