Coding in 4th, 5th and 6th Class

All of our 4th, 5th and 6th classes participated in a coding session with Microsoft Ireland volunteers last Thursday. Ten sessions in total took place with amazing volunteers guiding our students. Since then, students are keen to use their computer time to continue to learn more about coding as they are finding it so interesting. A big thank you to the visiting volunteer group.

Marathon Kids Final Mile

Last Thursday, November 30th, 150 pupils from our 5th and 6th classes ran their final mile of the Marathon Kids programme at Morton Stadium in Santry. The children have been running in school for the past 8 weeks, and have now ran the equivalent of a Marathon (26 miles / 42 km). It was a great day, and all the children received t-shirts and medals.

David Gillick was on hand to present the medals to the children at the finishing line, as well as Mayor of South Dublin Paul Gogarty. A big THANK YOU to Alison Casserly and South Dublin County Council for organising the programme. Thank you to the teachers and staff also for completing the programme with the children. And finally, WELL DONE to all the children – we are very proud of your achievements, and we encourage you all to keep up the exercise. Cross Country training starts today, and I look forward to seeing increased numbers in the training.

Mathletics Mornings for 3rd Class Parents

We recently held two Mathletics mornings for 3rd class parents. We had 19 parents show up, and we demonstrated how the children can use Mathletics, how staff use it, and also, how important it is for parents to support their use of Mathletics. We have found over the years that those who engage most with Mathletics often do best in their tests.

We encourage everyone to continue doing at least 10 minutes of Mathletics every night. It is great seeing all the pupils getting on the Hall of Fame and also the classes doing so well. We often have the top pupils and classes in Ireland and Europe. It is also great hearing who is Mathlete of the Week in each class every Friday.

Keep up the good work, and thanks to all the parents who came to the mornings last week and who are supporting their children’s learning at home!
