Round Towers GAA Club / Easter Camp

A big THANK YOU to James Glancy, the Games Promotions Officer in Round Towers GAA Club for training our 3rd classes in term 1 & 2. He has done great work with the children. Round Towers have great facilities and cater for boys and girls of all ages, in football, hurling and camogie. Being part of a team is a great way to develop your skills and make new friends – you don’t need to be brilliant at it, as long as you are willing to try hard, you can achieve anything!

The club are holding an Easter Camp over the holidays. All the information is on the leaflet.

Handy Handwriters!

Congratulations in lovely scriptYes, congratulations to so many of you for entering the handwriting competition. And a special congratulations to the following five children, all with gorgeous handwriting. They were selected from the hundreds of entries for the An Post/INTO handwriting competition. Soon their handwriting will be judged in the All-Ireland national competition!

Congratulations in lovely script 2Please congratulate:

  • Katelyn Byrne of Ms Ní Dhuill’s 4th class
  • Roisin Daly O’Neill of Mr Bannon’s 6th class
  • Coleen Imperial of Ms Shaw’s 3rd class
  • Aaliyah Yusuf of Ms Ward’s 5th class, and
  • Rebecca O’Neill of Mr Coleman’s 5th class.

Why handwrite? People who write words using handwriting instead of “one-letter-at-a-time” writing normally do really well in school — and so schoolwork is easier for them! So, when possible, choose to handwrite — that way, once you get good at it, your schoolwork will be easier and easier and easier and…

Orientations

This term, our class (Ms. Byrne’s 3rd class)  have been learning all about how to write good narrative stories! Last week, we had a competition to see who could write the best Orientation (setting) for a narrative. The title given was “Mr Ruddy’s Scary Day”.

The winners were Taha, Ryan and Eva! You can read their orientations here:

Caroline Foundation

At our recent assembly, Helen from the Caroline Foundation gave a presentation about the work the foundation does with cancer research. We recently fundraised for the foundation, by buying and wearing ribbons that Orla and Rosie made. We raised €400 for the foundation. Well done to all – a great effort, for a great cause.

Thank You, Jackie!

We recently had a presentation to Jackie Keane, who has left her role in Follow Your Dream, to work with the local School Completion Programme. Some children from FYD read out some messages for Jackie and we had a little presentation on behalf of the school and Follow Your Dream. We would like to thank Jackie for all her hard work with Follow Your Dream, and wish Sr. Gemma continued success with the project. It is a great way for pupils in 5th and 6th class to achieve success in a dream of theirs.
