The Bookworm Club 2010

Paired Reading
Paired Reading

Bookworm Club 2010 finished up this Thursday after a busy term for a very enthusiastic group of readers. The children enjoyed paired reading with their adult tutors. Listening and reading to books online was a new addition to this year’s club and it proved successful.
Bookworm club was facilitated by CYS and funded by Xilinx. See our lovely computer room in photos, also grant aided by Xilinx. Thanks to tutors and participants for making Bookworm 2010 a great club!

Raising the Green Flag

We had a wonderful day on Friday, June 11th when we raised our third Green Flag. All the school assembled on the top yard around the flag pole. Therese Ridge and Derek Keating from the County Council were there and they spoke about how important it is to protect our environment. Then Bn Ui Chadhain raised the flag to a big cheer and she spoke about Bawnogue and her first days here and she also talked about her experiences in her ‘new’ Bawnogue in Malawi in Africa.
Fr Marino sang ‘You raise me up” which was beautiful and moving and all the children joined in.
Then the visitors, parents and the Green Team went to the hall where there was tea and sandwiches and a beautiful cake made by Sean Hanson’s dad.
Ms Cahill’s class and Ms Doherty’s class performed their songs about conserving water. They got a huge applause.
So now we have 3 Green Flags and we have to remember what they stand for.

Mr Gilmartin’s 4th class in the garden

Mr Gilmartin’s 4th class planted runner bean seeds in their classroom. They looked after them very well and they grew really quickly. So then it was time for them to plant them out in the garden,
Jason put in some canes for them to grow up.
The class did a great job in planting them. I think they are natural gardeners – coached by Mr G of course!

Getting the Green Flag

On Thurdsday May 27th we went to Croke Park, where we were presented with our Third Green Flag by the chairman of An Taisce. Two members of our Green Team, Lauren Hennessy in Mr Stuart’s 3rd class and Teigan Walsh in Ms Cunnane’s 4th class came with me. They were wonderful representatives of our school and I was very proud of them. We had a lovely day and a lovely lunch!! The girls even got to stand on the pitch in Croke Park. We hope to raise our flag on June 11th and we have asked Bn Ui Chadhain to do the honours. Everyone will be welcome.

Code of Behaviour

Parents/Guardians  please read our proposed  Code of Behaviour. All families received a copy of the Code of Behaviour and a ballot paper. Please vote either YES or No and return the ballot paper to the school. Your opinion is highly valued by Talbot SNS.  Thank you!

Planting Sweetcorn

We’ve never grown sweetcorn before but this year Ms Cunnane’s class grew the seeds very successfully in their classroom and now we have them planted in the garden. We’re looking forward to seeing what will happen.

Ms Harrington’s class planted cabbage and carrots

Ms Harrington’s class sowed carrot seeds and cabbage plants in the garden yesterday. After that they made some daisy chains! Hopefully, we will have a cabbage and carrot party from the produce in September.
