Saltwater Aquarium in Talbot

A salt water aquarium will be with us from 3rd February to 17th!

Ms Ryan coordinated the event alongside Mona from The Marine Institute Ireland.

She visited us on the morning of 3rd Feb and set up the Aquarium. Mona did two workshops – one with the Talbot Green Team and one with Mr Colemans class!

The Explorers Saltwater Aquarium in the class provides an opportunity to bring the seashore to the classroom and teach the children about marine living things. We have live animals such as periwinkles, sea anemones, prawns, hermit crabs and star fish. Sea creatures and sea water was collected the day before in Dublin Bay. All the sea creatures will be returned to the sea in a few weeks.

The Green Team Reps will learn about the Sea Life and the teach other children in the school. It will provides an excellent opportunity for our children to develop a strong connection with the animals that can be found on their local seashore. It will encourage their engagement and sense of exploration and learning about the seashore environment; as well as the larger ocean and instill an appreciation for marine life and encourage the children to appreciate and care for our seas now and in the future.

Thanks to Ms Ryan for organising this amazing exhibition which all the kids in Talbot will get to see over the two weeks.

Coding with Microsoft Dream Space

On the 26th of November, as part of the Microsoft Dream Space Ambassador program, our Ambassadors attended the teacher planning meetings to teach the teachers about unplugged coding. They challenged the teachers through tasks like The Link Tree and Make Three Groups. Whilst the Ambassadors were a little nervous beforehand, they all showed themselves to be excellent teachers, providing super explanations and even helping the real teachers when they were struggling.
Following on from this, our Ambassadors visited Ms Jones and Ms Bradley’s Sixth Classes to teach them about coding using the MicroBit. The Ambassadors again shone in their explanations and demonstrations to the classes and great fun was had by all whilst they learnt how to use the MicroBit.

Science Week and Talbot Science Fair 2025

As part of Science Week Ireland, the Talbot SNS Science Fair took place on Wednesday 12th November and was a huge success, showcasing our students’ creativity and innovation. Students impressed their peers and teachers/SNA’s with cool experiments, insightful questions, research, and interactive exhibits that highlighted their scientific curiosity.  A big thanks to all staff members for their hard work helping to organise the fair!

Microsoft Dreamspace Ambassador Program

This week, some of our 5th class students began their journey on the Microsoft Dream Space Ambassador Program. The program is a student leadership and training initiative in which our Dream Space Ambassadors receive online training from Microsoft. These students will then support, train, and mentor other students, teachers, and others in our community based on what they have learnt.

Our first training taught us to think like a coder. Watch this space to see what we do with all we’ve learned…
