Colours Trip 2025

The Colours Trip took place on Tuesday June 10th. We had so much fun! All the boys and girls were so well behaved. We went to the Visitors centre and played in the playground. We then stopped for a snack on the benches and finished off our trip with games on the field. Thanks to all our teachers and SNAs who facilitated the Colours groups throughout the year. Also, a BIG THANK YOU to our wonderful Parents’ Association who funded the bus for the trip. A truly magical day at the park!

Cycling Safety School

Recently our three 4th classes finished a 6 week Cycling Safety Programme. The children learnt the skills, knowledge and understanding of cycling on the road. It was a hugely enjoyable experience and it finished with a short cycle around Bawnogue.

Sports Day 2025

Well done to everyone for participating in Sports Day. We had our sprint races, long distance races, BeanBag race, 3-Legged Race and Sack Race. Some classes got to do the Tug of War also. There were some closely contested races and the judges did a great job on calling the winners. It was great to see lots of families up enjoying the day.

A man for all times: Matt Talbot–Events This Weekend, 100 years since he died

Our school is named after Matt Talbot.

Who was he?

Matt was a regular Dubliner who died 100 years ago, in 1925.

He is special because of his life. He became addicted to alcohol, but then overcame his addiction through a life of prayer. He is a special example of hope to all of us who become addicted to something harmful, like drink or drugs.

Matt started drinking in his early teens and was soon addicted, spending all his wages and spare time in the pubs. He was 28 when he realised he was a slave to drink and gave it up, firstly for 3 months, then 12 months, then giving it up for life. For strength, he modeled his life on the early Irish monks, living very simply and turning his attention to God and to prayer. He quietly gave much of his wages from his job on the docks to neighbours who were poor. He stayed off the drink for 41 years until his death. He died on June 7th, 1925, in the heart of Dublin.

He is an example to all young people who are addicted that they can change their lives with the help of God.

If you’d like to learn more about Matt, from interviews with people who knew him, you can watch this documentary, made in 1963.

The Irish Catholic newspaper has details on the events happening this weekend. They include a Mass, a movie, and talks.

Here is a copy and paste from the paper:

  • Friday: “The Centenary weekend will commence at Our Lady of Lourdes, Sean McDermott Street, on Friday, June 6 at 7pm with a talk titled ‘Matt Talbot: A Saint for Our Times’ by Vice Postulator Fr Brian Lawless. This will be followed by an international healing service conducted by Fr Doug McKay from Our House Ministries and Mr Ken Johnston from the Calix Society, both from Philadelphia USA.
  • Saturday: “On Saturday, June 7, the Centenary Mass will take place at St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral at 3pm, officiated by Archbishop Dermot Farrell. Following the Mass, there will be a procession to the tomb of Venerable Matt Talbot at Our Lady of Lourdes, Sean McDermott Street, where a wreath will be laid.
  • Sunday: “Sunday, June 8, at Our Lady of Lourdes, Sean McDermott Street, will feature two talks beginning at 2pm. The first talk, presented by Darren Butler of the Irish Bishops’ Drugs Initiative, will discuss the Church’s role in addiction and recovery. The second talk will cover the role of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association in contemporary society, delivered by Fr Robert McCabe and guest speakers. The day will conclude with a closing Mass celebrated by Bishop Michael Router IBDI.

“The weekend’s celebrations will close with a screening of the new Matt Talbot docudrama film, “Matt Talbot: Urban Mystic,” at the Gresham Hotel, O’Connell Street, at 8pm”

Grandparents Day 2025

On Friday 30th May Talbot SNS held our annual grandparents event. Held across two sittings to accommodate all the special guests, the day was filled with chat, music, and plenty of nice moments!

Our talented school choir lead by Mr O’Donnell opened each sitting, pupils also read grandparents readings and poems, expressing love and appreciation for the grandparents in their lives.

Many thanks to the efforts of our Parents’ Association, who served teas, coffees, and pastries throughout. Their hard work and hospitality were greatly appreciated by all.

We are so grateful to everyone who helped make Grandparents Day such a success, and especially to the grandparents of Talbot who joined us.

Joey Byrne, Home School Community Liaison

Visual Art’s Display Winners 2025

Congratulations to our 42 Wonderful Winners at the Talbot Visual Art’s Display 2025!

And THANK YOU to all the amazing young artists in our school who shared their creativity with us for the art display. We’re so proud of your imagination and hard work. Keep creating — the world needs your art!

Art Workshop with The Civic Theatre

Recently, some of our 6th Classes were lucky enough to participate in a comic book art workshop with local artist, Juliet. The workshop was brought to us by The Civic Theatre in Tallaght as part of the lead up to their Cruinniú na nÓg festival which takes place on Saturday 7th June.

The workshop was a truly memorable and inspiring session for our 6th class students. Juliet encouraged the students to delve into their creative sides and embrace their inner artists, with each child producing super comics by the end of the workshop.

A huge thanks to Juliet and The Civic Theatre for working with us.

You can find more information on the wonderful Cruinniú na nÓg events taking place in The Civic Theatre by visiting their website here.

New artwork up in the school entrance…

Two years back, as part of 6th class preparations for Confirmation, the well-named Amazinggrace Fadojutimi in Mr Gordon’s 6th class created a stunning piece of art inspired by the Holy Spirit.

We’ve finally got around to framing it and we are delighted to display it in the school entrance for all to enjoy. The more you look at it, the more you notice. What an artist. The photo here shows it together with her two exceedingly proud and equally amazing sisters, currently in 6th and 4th.

We hope you take a moment to enjoy it too.

Talbot Students to feature in a film!

On Monday 14th April during our Easter break, up to 20 Talbot kids got the chance to be involved in a filming project as extras. Filming for the new short film took place in Clondalkin. ‘Magic Markers’ is a Playbook Media Ltd production, written by Jason Branigan and Produced Emer Durcan, who is working on the project. She said: “We received Screen Ireland funding for a short film, and shot in various locations around Clondalkin including Talbot SNS.”

Well done to all our pupils who featured in the filming project! We wish you well in your future acting careers – don’t forget us now :)! Article and pictures courtesy of the Clondalkin Echo: https://www.echo.ie/
