Talbot Senior Presents Our Summer Concert “The Rogue From Bawnogue”

“The Rogue From Bawnogue” takes place this Wednesday 19th June and this Thursday 20th June.

We look forward to seeing you all and we hope you enjoy the night’s entertainment.

Important Note About The Concert

Parents and Guardians,

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY.

1. Timing of Arrival – Due to time for costumes and class organisation, children for scene 1 and scene 2 are to arrive at 7.00, not before, and children in the other scenes from 7.10 to 7.20. The main characters in the play are to arrive by 6.45. The concert begins at 7.30.

2. Snacks – On the night, your child will receive a snack for free, thanks to Glanmore Foods.

3. Shoes and Hair – Children are to wear light runners, not heavy shoes. Children with long hair are to have their hair off their face.

4. Reminder—No children of primary school age or younger in the audience. This is due to the limited seating each night. Your child will see the show during the day.

5. Entrance Used on the Night – Natasha and Jenny will be welcoming you in to the hall through the entrance at the Teachers’ Car Park.

6. Interval and Raffle – There will be a 10-minute interval after scene 4 when there’ll be a raffle with lots of prizes, organised by the Parents Association. Tickets are priced €2 for a strip of 5 tickets, and 3 strips for a fiver.

7. Collecting Your Child – After the whole concert is over please go out the back of the hall and then go through “the teachers’ entrance” to collect your child from your child’s classroom. For your and everyone’s safety, no-one is allowed to go through the busy backstage area (blue curtains). The main gates will be open then for you to head home, hopefully happy and proud.

8. DVDs – Two films of the Concert are being professionally recorded, one for each night. They act forever as great memories of a very special time in your child’s life. Each class will be busy on stage for about 10 minutes, acting, singing and dancing. To ensure the best possible quality we are organising professionals to do the sound and lights on both nights. You can order a DVD for €20 of the night your child was in. You can do that on the night of the concert: or you can do that in advance in school. The DVDs will be delivered to the school and given to your child.

Thank you, Martin Stuart, Concert Coordinator

Digital STEM Event in AIT

On Wednesday 29th May 4 children from 4th Class went to Athlone Institute of Technology for a Digital Stem Event with Mr Moore. This was part of our collaborative project with St Anne’s NS in Ardlcough, Co. Kildare. Mr O’Leary and 4 children from 4th Class in their school also came with us.

The children had to showcase their project of a Lego canal boat and bridge which interacted with each other using sensors and the Lego WeDo2.0 software. The project showed how the canal linked the two schools together.

There was a lot of different STEM projects shown on the day and everyone enjoyed it!

Well done to all in 4th classes in the two schools for all their hard work!

Sports Day 2019

We had a super time at our sports days Thursday and Friday last week. Big thanks to Mr Carty for organising it and having the day run so smoothly, as always! Well done to all our winners and to everyone for making the day so enjoyable!

5th Class Trip to RTE studios

Jake Kavanagh in Ms Floyd’s class was the overall winner for recount writing on the 5th class trip to RTE studios recently. Here is his finished article: Mr Byrne

On the 22nd of May 2019 all the fifth classes from Talbot SNS went to the RTE studio in Donnybrook to take part in Donncha O’Callaghan’s Two Talented TV show. He is a retired rugby player who played for Munster and Ireland!

When we arrived we went into a room called the green room. We had biscuits and drinks. There were two other classes already there. When we were getting ready to leave there were two other kids arguing over a toy – it was so funny! Then we lined up and went into the studio. We stood and waved at a camera. After that a woman moved some of us to the front, so Alex, David and I all went to the front.

At first we saw a girl that was eleven. She sung ‘Ghost’, a super slow song that I almost fell asleep! Then more of my friends came up too. Next, a boy named Ryan came on and played the piano. His Mam came out and played the piano as well. Then at the end a girl sang the song ‘Don’t stop me now’ by Queen, with her dad too.

After we went out to the RTE sign and took a photo. Afterwards we got on the bus and went to Herbert Park where we had lunch and played. After we ate we got on the bus and went home – we all had a great day!

Talbot’s Athletic Team attend Santry Sports 2019

Well done to each member of our school Athletic’s team who took part in Santry Sports this week. Mr Carty reports that each member put in a great performance and ran to their best. A big thank you to Mr Carty for the weeks of training  and selection of our final team. If you are interested in joining our running club it is open to all children of Talbot Senior and runs every morning from 8:50 to 9:00 on our school running track on the morning of your PE lesson. Thanks again to Mr Carty for all his work coordinating this club.

School of Excellence Digital Cluster Trip to Athlone Institute of Technology

On Wednesday 29th May, four of our students pictured below and their teacher Mr Moore will travel to AIT to work collaboratively on a LEGO project with a team from our partner school St. Anne’s NS, Ardclough. Our project is entitled  Ardclough  to Talbád. The project  explores  the  programming involved  in  moving  a barge  boat by canal  between both schools. The  barge  is  programmed  to  sense  barriers  such  as lock  gates and  to stop as necessary. The  lock  gates/bridges are programmed to open when they sense the arrival of the barge.  All programming and lego models were planned and built by our students.  Thank you for all the great work. We hope you all have a great day.
