One Book Project

Our One Book Project starts this week! This year the 5th and 6th class children will be reading “The Ghost of Grania O’Malley” by Michael Morpurgo. The 3rd and 4th class children will be reading “Cockadoodle-Doo Mr. Sultana!” also by Michael Morpurgo!

Keep checking this website for some competitions based on the books! The first one will start on Monday!

Thank you to Xilixnx for sponsoring this project. Every child in the school will get to keep the book!

Confirmation 2013

Congratulations to all the children who made their Confirmation yesterday. Today was a day for photos!

Air Resistance

In our Science lesson we designed and made parachutes. We discovered that the parachute caught the air as it was dropped.

Seán designed the winning parachute as it stayed in the air the longest. 🙂

Abbey Sheridan’s Report

Please have a read of Abbey Sheridan’s report about dogs. For some reason Abbey’s report didn’t appear in our ‘We Are Writers’ Book. We have put her great report on our website and Abbey will read it out at the next assembly. Click on the image below to read it in full!

Rainbows Outing 2013

On Wednesday, in spite of the rain, the Rainbows group went on a trip to the Phoenix Park. We had great fun. We saw Wellington’s monument, went to the playground and did a scavenger hunt around the Papal cross.

Knitting & Sewing Class for parents!

A new knitting and sewing class for parents started last week. The parents are learning great new skills – some parents are making cushion covers and some are knitting scarves! The class takes place on Wednesdays 9.15am to 11.15am.

Maths For Fun!

Maths For Fun started today in Ms. Gallagher’s 3rd class! What a fun way to start a Monday!

Our New Classroom Computers… Believe the Hype… It’s Time to Type! Ready, Steady, GO!

Yes, it’s soon here again. The third-ever “Talbot’s Got Typists!” competition.

In June 2011 the winner was Kayleigh Perkins with 31 wpm (words per minute [net]).

In June 2012 the winner was Teigan Walsh with 36 wpm. (Joe Okewumi came 2nd with 28 wpm.)

In June 2013 the winner will be… you?

For the first time, I am helping you by letting you know exactly what you will be asked to type in the School Final — the lessons that begin HERE! http://www.typingweb.com/tutor/lesson/index/id/328 (Copy and paste this code into your address bar).

The rules are simple: (1) Practise like mad (using ten-fingers). (2) Command your teacher to choose YOU as one of the top two TEN-Finger typists in your class. (3) Practise like mad (using ten fingers). (4) Do your best in the competition in June (when I invite the top two from each class to the School Final). (5) Win! (6) Celebrate — a prize for yourself, your name forever on this website as the best in the school, and extra computer or PE time for your class.

Good websites to practice on are BBC’s fun Typing Mat and typingweb.com (note: you do NOT have to become a member; just click on the red ‘x’ when it asks you to log in).

Ready?

Steady?

GO!

Snowy Morning.

One Morning, it started to snow horribly. I felt demoralized as outside was being pounded with miniscule pieces of snow. These snow pieces were small but they were mighty as they covered my lawn in less than five minutes.
Work on clearing the lawn happened quickly. As I felt the strain of lifting the shovel, my left shoulder felt an immensely strong pain. “Aaaaargh” I shouted. My father told me to go inside.
To my delight, my big sister made hot chocolate for me. I gulped it up, as a vacuum gobbles up dust. ” Mmmm”, I said to myself as it slid down into my belly.
As I looked outside, the snow had melted. This mornings illusion of a back-garden north pole land had sadly dissappeared.
