Ms. Shaw’s Class

Here is a great picture of Ms. Shaw’s class in PE! They are doing dance this week!

Dragons Den

On the 6th of November, the children who were taking part in the Dragon’s Den project, were taken up to Xilinx in Citywest. There, they met with their mentors and spent an hour practising their presentations.  Each group stood up in front of the Dragons and made a presentation telling them about their product, how it works, where they would advertise it, how much they would sell it for, how much profit they would make and much more. The Dragons asked lots of thought-provoking questions.

The Dragons said that they were super impressed with all of the presentations and they were especially pleased with the way the children all work together as part of a team!

Overall it was a great day. We would like to thank Rachel in Junior Achievement for organising the event and to all the mentors and Dragons in Xilinx for taking part and giving up their time!

Paired Reading

Paired reading got under way this week in 4th and 6th class. The 4th class children are paired with a reading buddy in 6th class or a parent. So far, it’s going really well!

Dragon’s Den

30 children from 5th class have been chosen to take part in a Dragon’s Den event in Xilinx. Last  Monday, 5 volunteer from Xilinx came out to meet with the 30 children. They split into 5 groups. Each group came up with an idea or invention. They had to decide on the name of their product, where they would sell it, who would buy it, where they would advertise it and how much they would sell it for. On the 6th of November, the children will meet their volunteers up in Xilinx in Citywest. They will spend more time practising their presentation for the Dragons! They will then present their ideas to the Dragons in a hope of receiving investment (not real money!) Thank you to Junior Achievement for organising this event!

The Hobbit

Mr Gilmartin’s 6th Class have just started reading “The Hobbit” written by  J.R.R Tolkien. The film will be released in Ireland in December!
