Confirmation Dates/Times for Parents and Children (as at 8th Feb, 2022)

Dear Parents/Guardians of children making their Confirmation,

Your child is busy preparing for their Confirmation. Here’s what’s coming up that involves you. Please put the following dates and times into your diaries.

  1. Parents Confirmation Talk: Monday, 14th March, 7pm, in Bawnogue Church. This is just for parents, not the children.
  2. Ceremony of Light: Tuesday, 22nd March, 7pm in Bawnogue Church. Please bring your child’s baptismal candle.

This is an important part of the pre-Confirmation preparation. A key part of the service is when parents hand the lighted Baptismal candle to their child, acknowledging that their child is now ready to become a responsible Christian. At the Ceremony of Light, parents light their child’s Baptismal candle from the Paschal candle and hand it to their child. In doing so, parents promise to help and support their child live out the call of their Confirmation. They are agreeing, together with their child, to keep the light of faith burning in all of their lives.

  1. Confirmation:
  • Mr Gordon’s Class: 11am, Wednesday 6th April
  • Mr Carroll’s Class: 1pm, Wednesday 6th April
  • Mr Coleman’s Class: 11am Thursday 7th April

Finally, and importantly, could you please read, fill in, and sign the attached letter from Fr Brian and the Archdiocese of Dublin, and your child sign it too. (This was on the letter sent home: it’s a new thing from the Diocese whereby they want to see parents and children actually sign up.)

Before each event we will send on more details. Looking forward to seeing you soon.

God bless,

Martin Stuart (Confirmation Coordinator), Thomas Carroll (6th class teacher), Darren Coleman (6th class teacher), Ronan Gordon (6th class teacher)

The above was in a letter sent home with children today. We sent it via Aladdin to parents/guardians too.

Provisional Dates for Confirmation Classes 2022

I’d like to advise you that the current plan is that we are HOPING to proceed and hold confirmations for the current 6th class children before Easter, specifically on the 6th and 7th of April.

Very importantly, as we told the children, this is NOT definite.

IF it can go ahead on those dates, Fr Brian Starken will confirm the children as follows:

  • Wednesday daytime 6th of April: Children in Mr Carroll’s and Mr Gordon’s classes
  • Thursday daytime 7th of April: Children in Mr Coleman’s class

In the next 2 or 3 weeks, or sooner, we are hoping to hear from the Diocese of Dublin if we can go ahead on those dates. They are in charge of sanctioning Confirmation Celebrations within Dublin. We will keep you informed by letter, by Aladdin, and by news on our school website, talbotsns.com.

Meanwhile the children are busy learning about the Holy Spirit. They are preparing themselves to making a personal commitment to faith in Jesus, and to welcoming the Holy Spirit into their hearts and letting the Holy Spirit work through them.

God bless,

Martin Stuart
Confirmation Coordinator

Anti-Bullying

We are delighted to be a partner school with DCU Anti-Bullying Centre (ABC) delivering the FUSE Anti-Bullying & Online Safety Programme to our students.

In line with FUSE recommendations, we support the UNESCO Whole Education Approach in tackling Bullying and Online Safety in our school, which is led by our students and where their voices are valued and heard.

Together with the support of FUSE & active communication of our school Anti-Bullying Policy we are making a tangible difference in encouraging increased reporting resulting in decreased bullying.

Here are some of the key takeaways we will learn on the FUSE Programme
How to spot the signs of bullying both online and offline – RECOGNISE
How to take personal responsibility safely – RESPOND
How to “break the silence” – REPORT

They’re BACK! Free books, every week, close to your door…

You might have already seen them, but maybe you haven’t. The big red buses are back on the road, full of the best-ever children’s books, free!

Yes, the library bus is back in business. Here’s the link to see all the places it goes.

For many of us, the following three times are the key times each week:

  1. Melrose Green, Mondays, 3:00 to 3:55pm
  2. Bawnogue Road, Mondays, 4:00 to 5:00pm
  3. Neilstown Cresent, Tuesdays, 3:00 to 3:50pm

A good way to start the week. If you haven’t got a library card, or you’ve lost yours, just ask Siobhán on the bus how she can help you: she will. Why not ask your friends or your family to go along with you. They’ll enjoy it too!
