Maths Week 2021

This week we have had super fun with Mathematics in Talbot Senior. We watched Math’s TV, solved online puzzles, played math’s board games,  solved daily target boards, used our “Math’s Eyes” to solve the problems posed in Talbot’s Math’s Trail and much more!

Parents, if you would like to continue this math’s fun at home, check out this specially designed parent’s page https://www.mathsweek.ie/2021/parents-page/

Here are some photos of 3rd Class on the Math’s Trail: measuring the length of our running track, finding symmetrical letters in our school sign and measuring the width of a tree trunk! Well done to all our mathematicians this week.

Minecraft Education Edition

Last week, many of our students started using Minecraft Education Edition! Their first task was to design their Dream Home!

Here we have the amazing Kayla from Ms Jones’ 5th Class after desgning her Dream Home! It is truly amazing, we have a future architect on our hands!

THANK YOU! to all students confirmed in Sept—AND your families & sponsors.

This message concerns recent past pupils, those who were confirmed in September. It’s for them—AND those who were there to support them.

Thank you ALL so much for the way you participated in the church. You all showed what class people you are. Everyone was so respectful of everyone else and of the ceremony itself.

The school staff hope you all had a happy experience, a memorable experience.

We are now reflecting on how it all went. We are soon going to meet and share what WE all thought. But we would love to find out what YOU thought. So, could you please take 2 minutes to answer this quick and easy survey. We’d be very grateful, and even more grateful if you told others about this survey. THANK YOU! And good luck with everything.

(NEWS) Change to Confirmation: Up to 6 per group: Child, Sponsor, Up to 4 other family members

2nd September, 2021

Good news! Due to changes to the government guidelines, Fr Brian and Talbot SNS are now happy to say that each family’s group size is now at a maximum of six: that’s the child, the sponsor, and up to four family members including yourselves. A total maximum of six. Because there’ll be a gap of a pew between family groups, it’s a max of six per group: there will be no room in the church for anyone else.

Covid Guidelines still apply: Everyone must wear a mask. Everyone must sit in their pre-arranged seats.

Please arrive 10 or more minutes early: That’s very important! We have to bring everyone to their own seat and also give each child a card with all their details on it that they give to the priest as a key part of the confirmation ceremony.

For those from 2019-2020, your child’s class teacher will be calling you in the next week or so.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

(If you haven’t already read it, please also see the notice from last Friday, 27th August, detailing the dates and times for the different classes [but remember, the numbers allowed are now increased to 6 per group: the child, the sponsor, and up to four other family members].)

Confirmation: Dates and Times! (For 6th Classes 2019-2020 and 2020-2021)

Friday, 27th August 2021

Dear parents and guardians of children in last year’s 6th classes (2020-2021) and the year before’s 6th classes (2019-2020) who were due to be confirmed,

Great news: Fr Brian Starken & Talbot SNS have dates and times for each class’s very own confirmation ceremony. Here they are:

2019 to 2020 (two years ago) 6th classes:

  1. Mr Molloy’s class: Wednesday 15th September, 5:30pm
  2. Mr Gordon’s class: Wednesday 15th September, 7:30pm
  3. Mr Coleman’s class: Thursday 16th September, 5:30pm
  4. Ms Ward’s class: Thursday 16th September, 7:30pm

2020 to 2021 (last year’s) 6th classes:

  1. Mr Gordon’s class: Wednesday 29th September, 5:30pm
  2. Ms McEvoy’s class: Wednesday 29th September, 7:30pm
  3. Mr Coleman’s class: Thursday 30th September, 5:30pm
  4. Mr Malone’s class: Thursday 30th September, 7:30pm

Confirmations will be held in Bawnogue Church. Please arrive about 5 to 10 minutes early; we will guide you to your pre-arranged seats. We expect each ceremony to take about 50 minutes. Your child’s teacher will give you a call at least a week before the confirmation to go over some necessary details. If you have changed phone numbers recently, please advise the school.

To keep you and everyone safe, everything will be carried out in line with covid-safety guidelines. Everyone is required to wear a mask. Groups will be seated a safe distance from each other. The church is not allowed take more than 50 people and so numbers are limited to 3 per child: this includes the child. The three people could be, for example, the child, a parent, and the sponsor; or it could be, for example, the child and both parents—Fr Brian has said that, because of Covid, a parent can act as sponsor ‘by proxy’, meaning that the sponsor does not have to attend and that their role in that case would be carried out by a nominated parent.   (Note: 2nd September: These sentences are no longer true. It’s now more than that. Please see the news from 2nd September for details!)

Please note, these are the only dates confirmations will be held. This is your child’s opportunity to make their confirmation, unite more closely with Jesus, make a personal commitment to faith in Jesus, feel more closely a part of the Church, and receive strength to live a full, joyful life as a Christian.

We look forward to talking with you and to seeing you soon. God bless,

Fr Brian Starken, Parish Priest of Bawnogue
Loyola Madden, School Principal
Martin Stuart, Confirmation Coordinator

Confirmation: New Message for Parents of 6th classes (2019-2020 and 2020-2021)

Dear parents and guardians of children in last year’s 6th classes (2019-2020) and this year’s 6th classes (2020-2021) who were due to be confirmed,

We hope you and all your family are well.

With the good news that churches are beginning to open for confirmations, we want to let you know that Fr Brian Starken & Talbot SNS are planning to hold confirmation ceremonies in September/October, one class at a time.

For the children from last year’s 6th classes they’ll be in mid-September. And for this year’s 6th classes they’ll be in late September/early October. The exact dates and times will be set in early September, and will be posted on the school website, talbotsns.com. In addition, your child’s 6th class teacher will give you a call and at least one week’s notice; please ensure the school has your current phone number and email address. Everyone will be kept as safe possible as everything will be carried out in line with covid-safety guidelines (masks, numbers in attendance, etc).

We can’t predict with confidence exactly how the ceremony will be, but please be assured that everyone’s safety will be paramount. We will give you full details close to the day.

Each class teacher is very excited about seeing ‘their’ class again and we hope your child feels the same.

God bless,

Fr Brian Starken, Parish Priest of Bawnogue
Loyola Madden, School Principal
Martin Stuart, Confirmation Coordinator
