Space Study in 4th Class

Ms. Jones’ 4th class have been working extremely hard this week on their space projects. A lot of effort has been put in by all, researching projects ranging from the First Moon Landing to what the future of space travel might look like. A huge well done to all!

Lego WeD02.0 School Excellence Fund

As part of our School Excellence Fund we are using Lego WeDo2.0 with all of our 5th classes. The children have been using the Lego for the last number of weeks and have been building and creating loads!

We are partnered with St Anne’s NS in Ardclough, Kildare.

For more pictures and videos on what we have done so far check out the school twitter account or https://bawnclough-digitalcluster.weebly.com/

Mr. Carroll’s 3rd Class Making 3D Shapes

Mr. Carroll’s class spent Wednesday morning making different 3D shapes with chopsticks and blu-tack. From cubes and cuboids to pyramids and prisms, they did brilliantly with all their constructions!

Cross Country 2020

Talbot took part in the South Dublin Cross Country Series on Thursday 6th February in Clondalkin. We sent a team of 44 pupils and all the boys and girls gave 100% effort. It was our most successful outing to date. We had some fantastic results, most notably our superstar brother David and Franklin, who both came 1st in their respective races.

Other notable performances came from Brooke (3rd in respective race), Libby (3rd), Grace (4th), Ava (5th), Stephen (6th), Conor (6th), Vestas (7th), Roberts (8th), Sam (8th), Ruby (9th), Tobi (9th), Christian (10th) and Jamie (10th).

The next race will take place in early March. Keep coming to our early morning Running Club at 8:50am daily and Cross Country training at 10:45am daily.

General Election Results… from us, the children of Talbot…

We, the students, voted this week! We voted 1, 2, 3 from the 12 candidates standing for election in our area, Dublin Mid-West.

261 of us voted. Everyone in 6th, 5th, 4th, and 3rd. Only 4 people could be elected.

These are the results…

  1. Mark Ward, Sinn Féin (elected on the 1st count with 55 votes, 3 over the quota of 52)
  2. John Curran, Fianna Fáil (elected on the 5th count)
  3. Peter Kavanagh, Green Party (elected on the 6th count)
  4. Francis Timmons, Independent (also elected on the 6th count)

Ten members of the Student Council were heavily involved in organising this. Well done to Isabelle, Grace, Katie, Sean, Callisto, Tori, Taylor, Jamie, Zuzanna, and Martyna, all of whom…

  • wrote the letter to all 12 candidates asking for a reply to the question what have they done for climate change, not what are they going to do
  • read all the 8 replies, and summarised them into 3 bullet points for each person
  • went to all the classes and read out the 3 bullet points
  • and then organised everyone to vote 1, 2, 3
  • and then counted all the votes, using the PR (proportional representation) system to count votes and transfers.

Congratulations to everyone for voting, and taking your vote so seriously. Congratulations to all the candidates for standing for election, and especially to those elected! We hope our families all vote this Saturday. Every vote matters.

Talbot’s Homework Choice Board

This week our 6th class children’s parents had to do some homework.  The children interviewed their parents on a range of topics about their 11/12 year selves. Most interesting was parent’s favourite songs and singers when they were 11 and 12. The class had great fun throughout the week listening to their parents choices of music. Some of the classic songs included Belinda Carlisle’s Heaven is a place on Earth, Spandau Ballet’s Gold,  Madonna’s Material Girl, The Beatles, Bob Marley, Spice Girls, U2, Bruce Springsteen, The Doors, Culture Club, Celine Dion and many more. All songs to be added to the Talbot Spotify Playlist. ;D.
