School Closure Update (25th March 2020)

To all families in Talbot Senior School,

The Department of Education has extended the school closure until April 19th pending review.

Please make sure to view your class on this website and continue to follow the work your teacher has set out for you. Many classes are using the Seesaw app to communicate with students. You can log in here when you receive a Home Learning Code. You can download the app to your phone or tablet here.

Stay safe everyone and remember to practise good hand-washing and social distancing.

Confirmation Update

To 6th class students/parents/guardians,

Hello to all the Confirmation people in 6th class. As you know, we should have had our Ceremony of Light this week and our Confirmation next week. Sadly with the restrictions those events will not happen yet. We have to wait until the Archbishop gives us permission to proceed before we can do anything. When he gives us the green light, we will do our best to organise your Confirmation as best we can. Unfortunately at this time, we are unable to say when or how that will happen. Just be assured that we will update you as soon as things start moving. In the meantime, keep working on your blue Confirmation book and try to have it finished. Do your best with your writing and art work so it will be a wonderful book for you to keep. Take care and stay safe!

A Word From Ms. Madden

March 23rd, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians

I trust this note finds you well and that you and your loved ones are keeping safe. These are extraordinary times and while school is closed, we in Talbot will endeavour to facilitate teaching and learning through our website.

Some of our teachers are experimenting with a new APP which can facilitate feedback by teachers to their pupils. All of this is new to us so please bear with us as we try to get it up and running in some classes.

If you have any concerns or indeed questions please email the school email talbotsns@hotmail.com and we will get back to you as soon as we can

There are an abundance of resources on our website to keep our pupils up to date with their schoolwork. There are lots of websites and links recommended if your child has completed their assignments. We ask that pupils do what they can and as directed by their teachers. We understand that not everyone will have access to a computer or iPad all day long.

In the meantime, please keep safe and encourage children to wash their hands often. No playdates or meeting up with friends on the road or green. It is vital that we follow the advice given and STAY AT HOME to support our frontline doctors and nurses and all healthcare staff. By doing this we can save lives.

I wish you and your family every good wish and blessing.

Yours faithfully

Loyola Madden

(March 17th) Covid Information–and Supports–for Parents (Please Read)

Hello all parents/guardians,

Please please please read two pages on this website:

  1. The Parents page of this website:
    1. It gives you lots of different great supports during this difficult time, and
    2. It gives you key, vital information for you that we all need to know.
  2. The Covid-19 page of this website:
    1. It has important messages for parents AND for children, so please show it to your children too.

Obviously this is all new, so many parents probably do not know about it. So please do them a favour and please contact other parents electronically to tell them about it. (You might think others will contact them, but those others might be thinking the same thing… so please DO spread the word, today if you can.)

Letter to Parents 12th March 2020

Note to Parents

As you are all now aware all schools are closing today until the 29th March.

The children are being asked to do some work at home during this time. They will have with them their English and Maths books to work through as follows.

Children are to do

  • 1 Chapter a week of Mental Maths
  • 1 chapter a week of Spellbound
  • 1 chapter a week of A Way with Words
  • Daily Mathletics
  • The children can also work through the Look Back Chapters in Mathemagic
  • SEN children have work from their SEN teachers

All childrens work will be corrected when we return.

We ask that the children do not do more than this in their books. If they would like more ideas for work keep checking out our school website!

Recommendation of time for children:

  • 30 minutes maths
  • 20 minutes Reading
  • Unit per week of MM and SB and AWWW

The School Website is a Super Resource

All Games on the School website, Typing.com, Topmarks, Mathletics

Some Reading Resources:

https://www.storylineonline.net/ – stories being read for children

Borrow Box and Tumble books – if children have a SDCC library Card, they can access this.

Perhaps we can turn this unusual time of our lives into something we remember positively with our children…..like building forts in the sitting room, or treasure hunts in the garden, or dance competitions in the kitchen!

We do hope you and your loved ones are in the very best of health and continue to be throughout.

Best Wishes,

Staff of Talbot Snr School

(Please see our Covid-19 page first, and our Parents page second, for full information and helpful resources during this time.)

Announcement

12th March 2020

Dear Parents,

An announcement was made this morning by the Taoiseach of the closure of schools from today until March 29th.

All pupils are urged to practice social distancing and to minimise contact with each other to help avoid the spread of Covid19.

We have issued school work for the children to work on so as to minimise the impact on learning. Therefore pupils are taking their books home this evening.

We will continue to keep you posted of any updates via text and email.

We appreciate your support in this very challenging time, This is a time where we all need to work together for the best possible outcome for our students. The support of everyone across the sector is vital, as we all strive to ensure that this threat is dealt with as effectively as possible.

Yours sincerely

Caitriona Wynne

(Acting Principal)

(Please see our Covid-19 page first, and our Parents page second, for full information and helpful resources during this time.)

(March 2nd) Tonight–Monday–Pack in your bag Books & ‘Toys or Things’ for Tomorrow!

Please remember to bring in 1 or 2 books and 1 or 2 toys or things for tomorrow.

PUT THEM INTO YOUR BAG WHEN YOU GET HOME. If people don’t bring in much, there won’t be much to buy!

Remember everything will be just 1 or 2 euro each. You can buy 2 books and 2 toys/things. You’ll go home with great things for very little money.

We’ll also have two fun little competitions–throwing something into a bin, and guessing how many lunch bags are in a basket–both just 20 cents a go. Prizes that you’ll like!

When you’re in the hall, don’t forget to enjoy every other class’s great Climate Change projects!!

(March 2nd) Talbot SNS Update for Parents regarding Coronavirus – Covid-19

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Just an update re the action that we are taking in relation to Covid 19:

  • All teachers have done a lesson on how to wash hands correctly with soap – palms, back of hands, fingers & nails. Please could you continue this at home.
  • All classrooms and the corridors have gel dispensers.
  • We have taken extra precautions such as extra cleaning of door handles, IT equipment, and tables

As per HSE guidelines if your child develops symptoms of fever, cough or shortness of breath, your child should:

  • Stay at home
  • Not go out to public places
  • Not go to school
  • Please phone the child’s GP for medical advice, rather than turning up in person.

Make sure that when you phone, mention your child’s recent travel or exposure. These health services will arrange for them to get medical help.

The H.S.E. HPSC is monitoring the situation and updating its website www.hpsc.ie daily.

(Above was posted March 2nd)

Update: March 9th: We have posted more and important information about Covid-19 for parents on the Parents page of this website. Please have a read.

Update: March 13th: (Please see our Covid-19 page first, and our Parents page second, for full information and helpful resources during this time.)
